Dr Ma welcomes referrals from GPs, and has a preference for working in partnership with them in the care of patients, both before and after the surgery. It is important that the patient’s GP is fully involved in the patient’s care after bariatric surgery.
A patient’s GP often plays a critical role in maximising the long-term weight loss and health benefits of bariatric surgery, as well as in the early identification of problems.

Body Mass Index (BMI): A Quick Calculator
If your BMI is 30 – 39.9, you are considered to be obese; 40 – 49.9 is morbidly obese, and 50+ is super obese. BMI can be useful in helping you understand whether you are in a healthy weight range. But it’s only part of the equation. Your initial consultation with Dr Ma includes a thorough medical examination, full medical history and questions about your current lifestyle and weight management history.
